Personal Training or Classes: Which is best for you?

At Bishop Arts Fitness, a lot of people come in unsure whether they should join classes, start personal training, or try to do both. It’s a fair question, and the answer isn’t the same for everyone.

Classes and personal training each serve a different purpose, and each works best for a different type of person, schedule, and comfort level. The goal isn’t to convince you that one is “better”… it’s to help you figure out what will actually move you forward.

Why Classes Work

Group classes create structure to improve your general fitness. You show up, you’re told what to do, and you work hard alongside other people who are trying to get better, too.

For a lot of people, that’s exactly what they need: something consistent, reliable, and motivating that gets them fit and keeps them active. Classes can help you:

  • Build general strength and conditioning
  • Stay accountable through routine
  • Learn basic movement patterns
  • Push yourself more than you might on your own

If you enjoy the energy, the variety, and the simplicity of “show up and go,” classes deliver that really well.

Where Personal Training Fits In

Personal training serves a deeper purpose. It’s more direct, more focused, and more tailored. Instead of following the same workout as a group, you get a plan built for you....your goals, your schedule, your injuries, your limitations, and your strengths.

Personal training makes sense if:

  • You want faster progress
  • You’re coming back from injury or dealing with pain
  • You’ve hit a plateau with your goals and don’t know why
  • You want to learn in a more individual setting
  • You prefer one-on-one attention over group settings
  • You work better with clear, personalized direction

It Doesn’t Have to Be Either/Or

People often assume they have to choose one path, but the truth is many members do both.

Some use classes as their “consistent base” for fitness and personal training to target specific goals or limitations: strength, mobility, muscle gain, skill movements, or rebuilding confidence in the gym.

Others start with personal training to learn form, build good habits, and understand their body in a more private setting, then move into classes.

The right blend depends on where you’re starting and where you want to end up.

If You’re Unsure What You Need

Most people don’t actually need a long-term personal trainer.
But most people do benefit from a conversation to understand their starting point and the personalized route forward.

That’s why we offer a simple, no-pressure meeting, No Sweat Intro: we talk through your goals, your schedule, and how you like to train. Then we give you a clear plan, whether that means classes, personal training, or a mix of both.

There’s no hard pitch and no expectations. Just clarity.

Sometimes the hardest part is just knowing where to start. If you’ve been thinking about getting stronger, feeling better, or simply figuring out what will actually work for you this time, set up a time to talk. Schedule a No Sweat Intro HERE and we can dive into Group Classes and Personal Training
